The Field Level Security Extension in Salesforce
FLS (Field Level Security) is a data-at-rest policy that is implemented in the Salesforce platform. You can control who can edit which fields, and what permissions they have. It is used for two purposes:
Preventing data loss, because if someone has compromised your password, they can easily change your organization's profile settings
Enforcing security and compliance
There is a risk that employees will reuse their personal information (such as phone number) when they sign up for an account or an application. This can lead to exposure of sensitive information and violation of privacy.
It is implemented as a checkbox next to each field in your organization. After you set the FLS, the extension shows you the checkbox. You can un-check it for some fields, or change it from what it was.
